Savvy Travel Lifestyle Habit: The process of getting in the habit of putting your normal family monthly spending (grocery shopping, fill ups at the gas pump, eating out, and other usual shopping) on the travel card that you choose so you can earn the sign on bonus and turn it into travel for your family. You pay off the balance of the card at the end of the month and you are only using one card at a time until you earn the sign on bonus. So you are not spending any more than you are normally spending, but you are just doing the simple step of putting your usual purchases on your travel card first. Your normal monthly spending adds up to help you earn the sign on bonus for the travel credit card of your choice. You then turn the points or miles from the sign on bonus into hotel stays, airline flights, car rentals, or theme park tickets depending on which card you are using.

So, after you have earned the 60,000 bonus SkyMiles Miles (or 120,000 if you AND your spouse/significant other each apply for the card), the miles will automatically be transferred to your SkyMiles Member Account. You can then go to Delta Airlines and enter your SkyMiles member number and click on the “use miles” option to purchase your tickets and use those miles to purchase round trip tickets for your family. Say you have a family of four, it will take about 18,000-25,000 SkyMiles to purchase a Delta round trip ticket for each family member to fly within the continental US.
See current example below of round trip ticket purchase using Delta SkyMiles to purchase tickets from one end of the country to the other – Los Angeles, CA to Orlando, FL.
According to the example below from the Delta site, you will need 18,000 SkyMiles x 4 (people) = 72,000 total SkyMiles to purchase all four round trip tickets. Since you will have 120,000 miles between your two Delta SkyMiles Member accounts you will have more than enough miles to cover all four of the round trip flights! You will still have to pay the $11.20 per ticket tax for each of the four round trip tickets.
